In my country these are called Chery Skin, which is not a very appealing name and apparently they are styled by Pininfarina which is a thing.

Pininfarina were clearly proud of it too. as there are no badges stating it on them anywhere.

I figured it was a Chery :)
Seems like even Pinifarina can’t avoid taking design cues from upscale models when designing Chinese cars

I still find it sortof odd that Australia is the most ‘Western’ country with the largest amount of Chinese brands.....how do they do there anyway?
We don’t have any Chinese brands here in North America....have people taken to them at all? Is there reliability and safety improving....?

commercials do ok sales wise, nothing great. the biggest seller is Great Wall with the V200/V240, X200/X240 and SA220 plus the new Steed
see the odd LDV van around
Geely and ZX were only sold in W.A.
Chery sold a few J3 and J11, J1 hatch not sold here in Vic due to regulations.
starting to see the odd Foton twin cab ute. we had one of them traded in at work, it was rather fucked after only 100k km
never seen a JMC Vigus. so no idea about them.
quality on some is so bad it isn’t funny, earlyish Great Walls were coming from the factory with asbestos gaskets in them, no wiring looms down the left hand side.
the Geely MK have been recalled for safety reasons a couple of times
early Fotons had the wrong jacks in them.
Chinese cars are nothing special.
wonder what the Chinese Volvos and Buicks that are available in the USA are like?
safety improving? glacially maybe.

Thankfully Chery has improved a lot in quality and their new stuff is quite impressive and sells pretty well in Chile.

Compared to this S21 that was selling just a few years ago:

Chevy had lawsuits again Chery for the name being so similar and actual whole cars ripped off. The old Spark even could use parts from the Chery 10 yrs ago and if I recall it was more than just doors as mentioned in this article.

That doesn’t look like a direct copy but that looks very much like an Opel Astra or Chevy Cruze hatch.

So as terrible as I figured then :P
I know the Honda Fit/Jazz we get here in Canada has a lot of them coming from Chinese plants...they seem OK enough, but I imagine Honda tries to watch quality control closely...

Most Honda cars here come from Thailand

Most of ours, historically AFAIK were from the US or Japan.
